Coron: Coron Reef Pension House

Address: Barangay 5, Bancuang, National Highway, Coron, Busuanga, Palawan, Philippines
We booked our Coron tickets on an Air Phil Expess sale, so we made ourselves flexible enough to adjust our travel dates within the travel periods required to get a discount.

I just came from a recent trip and my next travel would be within the next 4 weeks, so needless to say, I would have to make do with my 5000Php budget.

The most affordable lodging in Coron as recommended my friend was the Coron Reef Pension House. My contact was here in the Metro Area, Ms. Kristine Fe, the owner's daugther.

I checked their website and contacted her via email which is how I usually book my reservations (it's better to have your reservations in writing). The response time was not as fast as I am used to, so I made a few calls and send some text messages to follow up.

A 500Php deposit was required.

The Room

Upon arriving at the Pension House, a friendly lady assisted us by checking us in and leading us to our room.

There were rooms inside the main house where we checked in, but ours was outside. It was like a long 1 level house divided into 3 doors.

Our room which was 1000Php per night was good for 6 people, there were 5 of us, so it was 200Php per head per night. For 3 nights, each of us paid 600php (100Php deposit+500Php at the hotel).

The room was spacious with 2 junior double beds and 2 single beds. It has airconditioning and a wall fan. Their beds are thin matresses on wooden frames, but it's comfortable enough.

You can also hear every discussion that the other room is having even if you don't want to hear it, but hey, for the price you are paying, you can't really complain much.

There was a shower area and a toilet area. The girls though are hesitant to take a bath at the shower area because there were gaps on the bambo stilts wall.

There was no hot water, but we're fine with that.

Coron Reef has a generator. This should be a requirement for your lodging as electricity in Coron is still unstable.

They only turn on the generator at night and it doesn't support the airconditioning, so the rain and the cool weather was a blessing when we were there because there was a lot of power fluctuations.

The Area

Having their own docking area is a big plus, as you wouldn't have to walk at the docking area near Lualhati Park  for your island hopping.
They also have a couple of Myna Birds.
Coron Reef Pension house is located in the town center, so most shops are within a walking distance.

The Food

Most of the staff are at the restaurant, so if you need something, you would not be able to find anyone at the reception/front desk area.

Coffee is available 24/7. They serve dinner for 150 per head for lunch/dinner and 100Php for breakfast. It's consisting of 3 viands (name it and they'll cook it for you) and eat all you can rice. You can pre-order, just advise the staff what time you'll be eating and they'll have it prepared on the dot.

Dinner

 Breakfast

Everyone is friendly and the owner, Ms. Chinet was always at the restaurant area checking out how her guests are doing.

Overall for 200Php a night, I can say it's more than worth it.

  2. Hi. Ask ko lang kung kelan ka nagpunta ng Coron?? I booked a flight kasi by August and I'm worried kasi rainy season na and baka magkaron ng cancel flights due to bad weather. Is there a chance na okay naman ang weather sa coron by august? Thanks.

  3. Hi Joyce, we went around July, rainy season na din. We were there for 4 days, we have one day of sun, yung ibang days either cloudy or maulan, but it wouldn't stop you from going around Coron Loop naman. May ibang island, like Malcapuya, na hinde pwede puntahan pag masyado malakas yung ulan and maalon. Our return flight almost got canceled, may typhoon kasi that time. What's good is yung normally crowded na sites, may chance na masolo nyo. :)
